Çağla Meknuze wrote a looped poem inspired by the calligraphy work Ali by master calligrapher Prof. Emin Barın, whose form resembles a labyrinth. This poem was incorporated as a sound installation into an installation constructed in Prof. Barın’s studio, modeled directly on the calligraphy. In this way, the audience experiences the poem about Ali—one of the Four Caliphs—almost as if walking through a labyrinth. The poem is cyclical in structure, allowing for a non-linear reading in which the text loops back onto itself. The refrain of the poem reads:
“Ali, one of four; the unwanted. Are you at the beginning of the path? Or at its end Ali?”
