The video work “Three Girls Card Monte” offers an interpretation of the game Three-card Monte through the lens of Anatolian headscarf-tying traditions. In certain regions of Anatolia, the headscarf continues to function in everyday life as a means of exposing women’s private lives, enabling a highly detailed system of classification: infant, child, young girl, engaged, newly married, long-married, married with a husband working away, mother, childless woman, woman estranged from her husband, divorced widow, widow whose husband has died, widow seeking remarriage, and widow not seeking remarriage.

In the video, the female hand presenting the cards signifies consent to labeling, while the male hand selecting them represents the authority of the patriarchal figure. As becomes evident, the cards themselves possess no agency within this game.
